Coffee Party Ideas
I think we should have a set of simple, morally clear goals, or maybe maxims.
These are things that might lead to a leveling of the argument, and it would keep us from spending a lot of time debunking the truly silly and unsupported stuff the right-wing echo-chamber is booming out.
I am liberal and progressive, generally in my views. I was a Regan Republican until I started reading about what was really happening.
Ideas for the left-wing echo-chamber (that really doesn’t exist yet).
1.) Liberals brought biggest tax cut for the middle class (2009)
2.) Liberals brought all of the advances in equal rights
3.) Liberals brought all of the advances in womens rights
4.) Liberals brought all advances in healthcare for all Americans
5.) Liberals brought all advances in education
Some planks for a Coffee Party platform.
1.) no child should go to sleep hungry.
2.) healthcare should be nationalized like in every other industrialized country. No physician will go hungry.
3.) we only need to have twice the military budget of the next-most paranoid nation with whom we are not allies.
Currently, the US has approximately the same spending as the next 18-highest countries’ combined expenditures.
The US spends 33 billion more on defense than the bottom 148 countries combined (of 153 top-spending nations).
4.) the most expensive college cannot cost more than 4 times the lowest-costing college.
5.) everybody’s vote counts.
6.) bring manufacturing home.
6.) fear is not a natural state.
None of these are erudite, clever statements. They are intended to transmit a set of core values to anybody with a pulse and the IQ of a houseplant. Democrats tend toward more complicated statements and this tendency alienates a large number who would support the main core values we mostly all hold.
